A Message from the Pastor
You might wonder: What is a "Christian Reformed Church?" At first glance, it is easy to take the word "Reformed" in the wrong way. I get a lot of mail addressed to the church as the "Christian Reform Church" -- as if we are a reform school for children or adults who have major behavioral problems.
That understanding isn't totally wrong. The church is not for good and perfect people. It is for people who are sinners and know it. It is for people who have put their trust in Jesus Christ alone for their salvation and are forgiven in him. They now have new life in him . Even in this life they are being renewed in his image and they will be perfectly renewed at his return. To learn how you too can have eternal life, click here:
But what we really mean by "reformed" is that we are are unashamedly Biblical in our theology and practice. We trace our roots back to the Protestant Reformation of the 16th century. It was at that time the "reformers" -- such as Martin Luther and John Calvin, among others -- rediscovered the historic doctrines taught by the scriptures which had been obscured by a church that had become corrupt. In sum, to be "reformed" is to be biblical; to believe in the absolute sovereignty of God and the authority of His word. To read a brief statement of what we believe, click here:
Perhaps you have given your life to Jesus Christ. Now you might legitimately ask the question: Why do I need the church? Can't I just believe in Jesus and then that's it? The answer to that question is "No." You cannot call yourself a Christian and not go to church. Nobody was meant to be a "Lone Ranger" Christian. Just as you need food for your body, you need spiritual food from God's word and also the encouragement of fellow believers. You need to have a membership in the new society that God has established on this earth -- the church. Life is too difficult for you to make it by yourself. One of the reasons the church exists is to help and sustain you in your walk of faith as you live in a difficult and challenging world.
Holland Christian Reformed Church has existed in the community since 1913. We've been proclaiming the same gospel ever since our inception. Our beliefs have not changed because God has not changed. In an ever-changing world, God is our rock and our fortress. In a world which constantly wants "change" we'll stick with a God who has not changed, does not change, and will not change. His promises to care for us, to give us hope for the future, to give us eternal life, are good for eternity.
I personally would like to invite you to come visit our church. Rest assured, you will be warmly welcomed. You can also rest assured that you will hear the message of life. We preach Jesus Christ, crucified for sin, and his victorious resurrection, his victory over sin. As believers in Christ, we also partake of his victory. Come celebrate it with us!
